Dragon Fruit Dye for Cotton Knit Fabric | Natural Dyeing Process with 3 Easy Steps: Synthetic dyes can have negative effects on the environment and water resources when they are not properly managed. So that, researchers are studying more sustainable and eco-friendly dyeing methods. Dragon Fruit Dye: A Natural Dye for Cotton Knit Fabric: https://textiletrainer.com/dragon-fruit-dye/ In this video, I will show you a natural dyeing process using dye extracted from dragon fruit. We usually eat dragon fruit. But can dragon fruit also be used to dye cotton fabric? Let's find out. I have divided this video into three sessions: Session 1: Mordanting process Session 2: Natural dye extraction Session 3: Dyeing process So, let's start with Session 1, the mordanting process. Session 1 — Mordanting Process Natural dyes have low affinity for textile fibers. A mordant can help improve the interaction between the dye and the fabric. In this experiment, we use potassium alum as the mordant. First, we take 5 grams of knitted cotton fabric. We use potassium alum 20% on the fabric weight. So, for 5 grams of fabric, we need 1 gram of potassium alum. Now, take 100 ml of water in the dyeing pot. Add the required amount of potassium alum and mix it well. Then, place the fabric into the dyeing pot. Now, load the pot into the infrared laboratory dyeing machine. Set the temperature to 80°C and the time to 60 minutes. Now, start the machine. While the mordanting process is running, let's move to the next session. Session 2 — Natural Dye Extraction Now, let's prepare the natural dye from dragon fruit. First, take a fresh dragon fruit and cut it into small pieces. For this experiment, we take 200 grams of dragon fruit pieces and add 200 milliliters of water. Now, put the mixture into a blender. Blend it for about 5 minutes to extract the color from the fruit. After blending, we need to separate the dye solution from the solid particles. For this, filter the mixture through a clean woven fabri
