One of the departments of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa, the Department of Textile and Apparel Engineering, which is a well known course among the public as Moratuwa TM . This course was first started in 1985 at the University of Moratuwa. By the year 2025, 34 teams have completed their degree. Only students who have completed their A/Ls in the stream of mathematics are qualified for this Degree programme. Students who are entering this degree programme will be able to obtain B.Sc. Engineering (Hons) in Textile and Apparel Engineering degree at the end of the four year course. This course covers all aspects of the textile and apparel industry. This is a four year course with six months of industry training in between 5th and 6th semesters (third year). This course gives you the opportunity to study in four focus areas in the final year. These include, * Technical Textile * Textile Engineering * Apparel Engineering * Colouration and Finishing These courses also teach a number of subjects related to the field of industrial engineering. The study of Technical Textile category provides insights into nanotechnology, smart textiles, textile composites and modern technologies related to textile technology, as well as how textile technology is used in other fields (eg building construction, machine design).
