How Spirit Halloween Makes a Year's Money in Two Months

Spirit Halloween runs more than 1,550 stores across the US and Canada, and almost all of them exist for about ten weeks a year. In this deep dive we trace the idea back to Joe Marver's first Halloween store in Castro Valley, California in 1983, walk through Spirit's own calendar, read a real 2024 temporary lease proposal (a flat $30,000 for a former Barnes & Noble building), and look at the hiring, exclusive products and timing that make a pop-up business work, plus the three things that could break it. Spirit Halloween and its parent, Spencer Gifts, are privately held and don't publish revenue or profit. Every figure in this video comes from Spirit's own public statements, a published lease proposal, or the National Retail Federation. Anything we calculated ourselves is labelled on screen as an estimate.
