How to: DIY Elastic Shorts with Pockets | Beginner Friendly | Sewing Tutorial | Free Pattern Included! Living in Miami, shorts are an everyday thing for me! These shorts are perfect for sunny days or simply lounging around. The best part is that you can use just about any fabric, ie. cotton, linen, poplin, denim, polyester and more! #createeveryday #diy #elasticshorts #shorts #sewing LINK TO ELASTIC SHORTS PATTERN ↓ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RI9im7whbzDT0Z_7zNX6bYJUpOPl4i2n/view?usp=sharing Materials - 1 to 2 yards of fabric - 1 inch elastic (length based on waist) - rotary cutter / scissors - iron - tape measure - pen/pencil - sewing pins / clips - matching thread - sewing machine - printed elastic shorts pattern Instructions Step 1: Prepare Fabric The first thing to do is to print (at 100% or actual size) the elastic shorts pattern & put the pieces together, located in the video description. Make sure to choose the correct size; sizing charts are within the printable pattern. Next - cut your fabric. You’ll need two pieces for the back, two pieces for the front, and four pieces for the pockets. Step 2: Attach Pockets With the right sides of the front and back pieces facing up, measure 1 inch from the top, and pin the pockets, right sides facing together. Make sure to do this with all four pockets on the front and back pieces. Stitch along the pins using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. For a clean finish, separate the pocket pieces, iron, and then top stitch, on all four pockets. I recommend pausing the video and making sure to match exactly. I’ve accidentally sewn a pocket upside down! Step 3: Stitch Front & Back Pieces Place the right sides of the front pieces together & then place the right sides of the back pieces together. Start with the front pieces; pin the curved sides, and then stitch along the end, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Do the same thing on the back pieces. Step 4: Place Darts Place the front of the shorts facing up, and on
