This project began with an investigation into how the human body might be perceived beyond ordinary human vision, which has always been a topic that I'm curious about. Inspired by Thomas Nagel’s questions about subjective experience, I explored the idea of echolocation and fourth-dimensional ideas of movement and lifespan through expanded bodily forms, mainly with visual research and sketches. My process developed from intuitive experimentation into a structured methodology, including reconstructing my entire process book so its materiality could also communicate the collection’s concepts. Through “activated” colors and materials, as if they are triggered through alternative viewing directions or UV light as part of the runway concept, I investigated how perception depends on particular conditions, which also echoes my theme. Drawing on my interdisciplinary fine art background and continuing interests in perception and cognition, I approached fashion as an expansion of longstanding questions about life, bodies, and how we experience them. I'm very happy and grateful for this project to give me the opportunity to reflect back on what I've made before that became the visual archetype of my fashion design language, and to be able to explore the possibility of reconstructing fashion into a visual language that could embrace such abstract interdisciplinary topics on the human body as the canvas. Thank you so much John for the amazing studio and the opportunity to showcase my work in front of the class! # #fashiondesign #parsons #fashionsketches #designprocess
