DESCRIPTION How does Serial RapidIO work, and how does the Linux kernel discover and number every device on an SRIO fabric? In this video we break down the SRIO protocol layer by layer: the logical, transport and physical layers, packet anatomy (ackID, prio, tt, ftype, destID, srcID, payload, CRC), the transaction types (NREAD, NWRITE, NWRITE_R, SWRITE, maintenance, doorbell, message, response), link-level hardware retry, and how switches route by destination ID. Then we walk through RapidIO enumeration in Linux: mports, rio_dev, rio_switch and rio_net, host vs agent with rapidio.hdid, starting a scan with rio-scan.scan=1 or /sys/bus/rapidio/scan, the Host Base Device ID Lock CSR, component tags, destination ID assignment, routing table programming with the hop count, the Discovered bit, agent discovery with CONFIG_RAPIDIO_DISC_TIMEOUT, and finally how to verify the result in sysfs.
